Color Club Halo Hues Spring 2013!

Hello, my lovelies!

Sorry it’s been so long. I’ve been busy with work and other projects keeping me away from polish. Be sure to stop by the Facebook page in between posts. It’s a public page so you don’t need a Facebook account to see it. I try to post there inbetween posting here and sometimes I can do a quick post of my mani of the day, when I don’t have time to do a full post here!

Today I have a couple of pretties for you from the Color Club 2013 Halo Hues collection! Wait, you say. These aren’t on their website yet! Or in stores! How did you get them? To make a long story short, some were released to various distributors, and you can find them through a few sellers on eBay and Amazon. I got lucky and snagged a couple!

I chose Cosmic Fate and Beyond, the orange and black. The six polishes that came out in the Halo Hues in the fall of 2012 were really beautiful and had a gorgeous holo effect and I kick myself now for not getting a few. So once these were verified as being legitimate, I grabbed them.

Cosmic Fate looks orange in the picture, but as soon as I had the bottle in my hand, I knew it wasn’t. I figured it was more of a coral. Not really that, either. Once it was on the nail, I realized it was a light peach, more of a nude. This was disappointing to me, as you know my hunt for a nice bright in-your-face orange holo. However, that’s not to say I don’t like it. As you can see, the polish is gorgeous, with massive tons of holo effect. OPI could really take a lesson here. They claim they’re trying to find new materials to produce a quality holo polish again, like their old DS series. Color Club has it nailed.

The formula wasn’t bad. A bit thick but I wiped the brush well to use thin coats. This is three, with no top coat.

The downside is that this sucker chipped. Big time. In less than 24 hours, I had serious tip chippage like you wouldn’t believe. Note that I did not use a top coat, which could account for that. I checked with several nail blogger friends, who had varying results. Some used top coats, some didn’t, some had chipping, some didn’t. So I think it’s a crap shoot.

And here’s Beyond, the black holo. I don’t have the original OPI My Private Jet holo version to compare it to (nor $40+ to buy it), but I hear there are enough similarities to make some people happy with Beyond. This is another beauty, with massive holo effect. Really, OPI, you can’t do this? Tsk tsk. Color Club gets the prize for holos! (China Glaze has some coming out this spring but I haven’t been impressed with the swatches I’ve seen so far-very weak holo).

The formula on this one was the same. A little thick, so wipe the brush well and apply thin coats. This is two coats, no top coat. Same thing with the chipping, by the way.

There are four other colors as well, a vibrant yellow, pink, blue and purple. You can still find these on ebay and Amazon, ranging in price and shipping costs, sometimes as sets, sometimes individually, so get looking! They’ll be released in stores “sometime this spring” so keep your eyes open! You won’t want to miss these!

  2. I have been dying to get my hands on this set of Halo Hues since I heard they were coming out with a second set. I have all of the colors from the first set and they are epic! And same thing with the chipping as well.

    1. Shame about the chipping but they get an A for the holo effect!

  3. I have four of the original Halo Hues but skipped out on the silver and lilac because I have Fashion Addict and Worth the Risque (more subdued holo effect but still enough where I didn't feel I needed both). I have full intent on getting the yellow and dark purple holo from this set! But...is Beyond way more holographic than Revvvolution? If it is, I want Beyond, I love Revvvolution but the holo is a little too subtle for me!

    1. I don't have Revvolution to compare, but the holo on Beyond is pretty intense, so I'm going to guess it may be stronger.
