Metallic Try It On Tuesday!

Hello, my lovelies! It’s another Try it On Tuesday where we try on polishes that have been waiting their turn!

I’m kind of cheating today and using 5, count ‘em, 5 new polishes! Today we have the Metallic Mirror collection by Essie. I think there are actually 6 colors; I have 5. I don’t really like paying $8 for a bottle of polish (well, for Zoya, sure!) but Wegmans was running coupons through June for $2 off each, so I stocked up. I’m okay with $6, that’s about the price of China Glaze. So the both the miser and polish addict are satisfied.

I did metallic skittles! I find it amusing when I used to wear what it now called “skittles”, years ago, I got teased for it. Little did they know how fashion forward I was being!

Warning - pic heavy!

Let’s talk formula. These were fantastic! Essie formulas can be hit or miss, but all five of these went on smooth as silk with full opacity in one coat. No joke. I did a couple touch ups where I bumped them, but otherwise, full coverage. They were a little on the thin side, but other than that, well done, Essie!

I’m not thrilled with these, truthfully. They’re very pretty, but I don’t think they’re me. Maybe it’s the metallic finish that doesn’t look right with my skintone. And evidently the ridge in my middle finger nail is bigger than I realized. Wow, it really stands out with this! I don’t know when I’ll use them again, really.

Pinky to thumb: Nothing Else Matters (lavender), No Place Like Chrome (silver), Blue Rhapsody (blue), Penny Talk (copper) and Good As Gold (gold). Good as Gold is about 2 shades darker than Essie Shifting Power. Similar finish too. Not a total dupe, though. They make me think of the frosty lipsticks of the 80s!

Overall, if you like metallics, I highly recommend these. Great on color and formula! What do you think? Will you be trying the Metallic Mirror line?

  4. I think Penny Talk looks good on you, too. I'm unlikely to try them out - I really struggle with metallic and frosty-frost finishes.

  5. + 1 on the "Penny Talk!" (And the fact that metallics seem to show off every little ridge, bump, divot nails have!

  7. Thank you, ladies! I think I messed up one of the names, though. It's Nothing else METALS, lol. Ooops, I was thinking of the Metallica song, evidently! Ruth, I'm not super keen on the frosty finish myself. I DO like the Penny too, it's probably my favorite, followed by the blue.
